Alpine Rafting’s Wapta Falls Wild & Scenic Tour Departs Daily at 10 AM and includes lunch. Group size is between 2-9 people and there is one guide for every 5 guests. Everyone is equipped with a Stand Up Paddleboard, Paddle and all the gear you need. The tour begins on the meandering beaverfoot river. It’s poignant green colour and the mountains of Yoho and Kootenay National Parks are a stunning backdrop for this once in a lifetime adventure.
Catch a glimpse of wildlife as you glide along silently. Remnants of early homesteading and logging can be seen along the river banks. Navigating a river on a Stand Up Paddleboard can be challenging, but your guide is there to help you with tips and tricks. If you get overwhelmed, you can always sit on your knees on the board to lower your centre of gravity. We paddle the Beaver River to it’s terminus above Wapta Falls. From here – we take the most breathtaking photo op moment you might ever experience in your life! We stand upstream of Wapta Falls. To the east, we gaze in awe at Mount Chancellor, a stunning peak in Yoho National Park that is over 10,000 feet. And to the west, we hear the deep thunder of mighty Wapta Falls. We can see it’s mist and a horizon line where the water drops off. This is a rare sight and an amazing vantage point of Wapta Falls.
We travel a historic portage trail from the Upper Falls to the Lower Falls. Again, more incredible Photo Opportunities! We stop at three viewpoints for you to soak in the falls in all it’s glory. The trail we travel is lightly travelled, and well off the beaten path. There is a well worn Parks Canada hiking trail on the other side of the river that thousands of people hike every summer. However, we travel the path less-travelled and experience Yoho National Park and Wapta Falls in a way that only a handful of people get to do every summer. We arrive downstream of the base of the Falls and travel the Kicking Horse River. The pace picks up on the Kicking Horse River, and we navigate Class 1 & Class 2 rapids on our Stand Up Paddleboards under the supervision of your guide. 4 kilometres later we arrive at the take out and enjoy a well deserved lunch.
We travel the Beaver and Kicking Horse Rivers and experience Wapta Falls & Yoho National Park in a way that others only dream of.
