The Kicking Horse River offers some of the best rafting in Western Canada. The rapids, the scenery, the whitewater and the adrenaline – it’s amazing and we love that we get to experience it everyday.
We know you know all about the thrills it provides, but do you know about all the other exciting adventures and activities in Golden, B.C?
If you’re coming to Golden for a day of rafting, we think you’ll like to check out some of these other fun activities too.
1. ATV Tours
Gear up and hop on for a wild ride! ATV tours in Golden, B.C. take you along the mountainside, through creeks, up logging roads and around the countryside. Choose from a 2 hour nature ride, 3 hour half day trip or a 4.5 hour full day ride. If you want to kick up some dust and pick up some speed, an ATV tour could be the activity for you.
All tours include a full tutorial, a friendly, knowledgeable guide, gas, gear, trail fees and rain gear if necessary! We recommend booking with Canadian Offroad Adventures, Golden’s local ATV company.
2. Skydiving
Take a leap of faith and book a skydiving trip. Have the experience of a lifetime and fly over the Canadian Rocky Mountain Range. If you want adrenaline and the most spectacular views you can get, this is something you’ll want to try. You’ll free fall and then float over the mountains, giving you lots of time to take in the surroundings.
You have the option to jump with a photographer to capture the experience, and it will all happen in the safe hands of their highly experienced team! Give Extreme Yeti a call – Golden’s very own local skydiving company
3. Paragliding

If you want to try something that involves jumping, but skydiving might be a step too high, we think you’ll love paragliding. Jump from Mount 7, and float above the Columbia Valley. You’ll be looking out over the Purcell Mountains and Columbia Wetlands which provide amazing views as far as the eye can see.
Take it easy and coast your way down, or let the instructor know you’re up for a bit of excitement and they can throw in a bunch of twists and turns. A longer thermic flight, or some ‘G’ forces and the thrill of flying fast – it’s totally up to you!
Altitude Adventures is where it’s at for tandem paragliding. They base themselves out of the Golden Eco Adventure Ranch 10 minutes south of Golden.
4. Golfing
Voted BC’s #1 Hidden Gem, The Golden Golf Club is sure to please all types of golfers.
Open 7 days a week for your golfing pleasure, the Golden Golf Club offers 18 holes and power golf carts. New in 2019 there’s also going to be mini-golf!
It’s a beautiful course in the middle of the mountains with the Columbia River running through.
Before or after your round, be sure to check out their restaurant for daily specials, a great patio, relaxed atmosphere and excellent food!
If you’re travelling with an RV or camper, they also have an RV park with hookups, potable water and wi-fi.

Start at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort for the extreme downhill terrain or head to Cedar Lake or CBT for more beginner friendly options. Been there, done that? Mount.7 is another option for you adrenaline junkies, and Mountain Shadows offers more technical root and rock kind of riding!
We have mountain bike trail maps here at our base, and if you need to rent gear you can do so in town at Higher Ground, or up at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort.
6. Horseback Riding
Giddy Up! Located in the Blaeberry Valley is Bear Corner Bed & Bale. Bear Corner offers one, two and three hour rides, with options for a full day or multi day rides, as well.
You’ll ride through the forest, across creeks and along the Blaeberry River. It’s a beautiful trail ride with a former rodeo cowboy leading way. Explore thousands of square miles of provincial forests with exceptional views of the Purcell, Selkirk and Rocky Mountains.
Looking for accommodation for you and your pony? That’s an option too. This is a haven for all things horses.
7. Via Ferrata
Do you like the idea of rock climbing, but aren’t totally sold on trusting yourself to get up the side of a mountain? You might just like Via Ferrata, the newest adventure at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort.
Italian for “iron road,” Via Ferrata is a protected climbing route that has steel cables running alongside them. You are always clipped into the route so there’s no danger of falling, but you still get the rush of teetering on the side of a mountain. A very big mountain! It’s quite a rush with unbelievable views.
Kicking Horse Mountain Resort has it all, and this fun activity requires little to no experience.
If you have questions about any of these activities, or about rafting, kayak rentals or SUP rentals, let us know. With so much to do we think you might have to plan on spending a few days in Golden at least!
